About WomenAbout Women&nbsp;is a long-term portrait and interview series presenting women from diverse social and professional contexts. The project combines photographic works with editorial conversations and approaches individual positions within the tension between responsibility, agency and public visibility.The portrayed figures come from fields such as science, environmental advocacy, sustainable entrepreneurship, as well as art and film. Among them are initiatives dedicated to the protection of water resources, founders of environmentally oriented start-ups, and cultural practitioners such as Emily Atef and Carol Girod. The selection does not aim at representation in a statistical sense, but rather at a focused engagement with societal questions and individual perspectives.The photographic approach is deliberately restrained. Reduced visual settings allow for a concentration on expression, presence and attitude. The accompanying conversations deepen biographical and thematic contexts and situate personal experiences within broader societal frameworks.Conceived as an ongoing project, About Women is envisioned as a future publication accompanied by an exhibition. At its core lies the question of how photographic portraits and editorial formats can open spaces for dialogue without resorting to narrative simplifications.

Instagram tourism has significantly transformed Étretat. For over 20 years, it has been one of my favorite places, but the massive influx of tourists, especially due to attractions like "The Panda's Eye," has put considerable strain on the infrastructure and environment. Étretat, a town of 1,300 residents, receives over a million tourists annually, which negatively impacts the quality of life for local inhabitants. 


To counter this, Shaï and her partner Cosmo founded the association "Étretat Demain" (Étretat Tomorrow). They advocate for sustainable tourism and environmental protection by collaborating with politicians, business owners, and residents to develop practical solutions. Their initiatives highlight the necessity of shaping tourism in harmony with nature and the needs of the local population.

Shaï :  "I got involved in community organizations very early on because I noticed that our natural site was deteriorating at an alarming rate. As a result, I was elected President of the Association for the Defense of the Étretat Site at the age of 23. Subsequently, partly linking these degradations to the phenomenon of overtourism, we decided to merge our associations with a friend (Zéro Mégot Etretat) to create Etretat Demain: a non-profit association that fights against the environmental consequences of overtourism. "


"In addition to frequent litter clean-ups, we focus on raising awareness about the site's fragility through media and social networks, as they contribute to overcrowding. We aim to manage visitor flows by promoting a geographical and temporal spread. Additionally, we engage in lobbying efforts to influence legislation on housing, environment, and local policies."

"Most residents have given us real support in our actions. We try to act as spokespersons for them. We all have an interest in preserving our living environment. Without this union, what will become of our cliffs, our nature, our school, our local shops?"


"Dialogue with local politicians is often challenging, as disagreements frequently stem from ego-related issues. When it comes to merchants, perspectives vary. Some embrace a long-term economic and environmental mindset, supporting our actions. Others, particularly those reliant on seasonal tourism and constant customer traffic, tend to oppose our initiatives. Despite these differences, we firmly believe that dialogue must remain open. Engaging with all stakeholders is essential to finding balanced solutions that benefit both the local economy and environmental conservation. Through continued discussions, we aim to foster mutual understanding and cooperation, ensuring that sustainable practices can coexist with economic interests. By maintaining dialogue, we hope to bridge gaps, address concerns, and create a more harmonious approach to managing the site’s challenges while respecting diverse viewpoints."

"Given the particularly unstable French political situation, projecting progress on environmental issues remains difficult. Nevertheless, we are committed to continuing our efforts so that Étretat can one day become a model of sustainable tourism in France. ABOUT EMILY ATEF

Emily Atef is a French-Iranian director, screenwriter and actress born in Berlin on May 6, 1973. She moved to Los Angeles at age seven, returned to France at 13- and later studied film direction at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB).
Her directorial debut came in 2006 with Molly’s Way, winning the Newcomer Award at the Munich Film Festival. Her second film, The Stranger in Me (2008), premiered at Cannes and received multiple accolades. In 2012, Kill Me earned her a Cinéfondation Fellowship at Cannes.
Atef’s 3 Days in Quiberon (2018), about actress Romy Schneider, won seven Lola awards, including Best Director and Best Film. 

In 2022, More Than Ever (Plus Que Jamais) premiered at Cannes, receiving critical acclaim.
Her latest film, Someday We’ll Tell Each Other Everything (2023), premiered at the Berlinale. Atef has also worked on TV projects such as Killing Eve (2022) and Tatort: Falscher Hase (2019).

Friederike Becht:
"We are part of nature – not outsiders who need to 'save' it. This is reflected in our language: We talk about 'environment,' even though 'coexistence' would actually be more accurate. Just as we have housemates, we are also fellow creatures of nature. I believe that as humans, we need nature to feel ourselves.  A mindful walk through the forest often feels like a short vacation. When we protect the forest, we also preserve a retreat that gives us peace, strength, and inner balance."

"My passion project is to advocate for the protection of our forests – not just here, but globally, especially the rainforest. It is essential for our climate, our air, and our entire ecosystem. Trees are the most important climate regulators and indispensable for our survival.
This commitment is independent of specific organizations. I’ve traveled twice with Adveniat, a Latin American aid organization, to South America, but my dedication to nature is not tied to any one institution. For example, I’m also interested in Amazon Frontline, because it’s mainly people from the affected regions who are active there, with fewer external actors involved.
I believe it’s important that our relationship with nature is not shaped by a religious or ideological framework."

How do you shake off such an intense role after a shooting day?
Friederike Becht:
“I have a very intentional routine: Before I dive into a role, I do a brief breathing exercise that mentally and emotionally prepares me for the character. When I put on the costume, I allow myself to enter their world.
At the end of the day, it’s just as important to leave that world behind. I take off the costume and do another breathing exercise to "log in" back to myself. It helps me set a clear boundary and practice soul hygiene – because even though I know it’s just a role, emotions sometimes linger.“

Clémentine : "The mermaids is about a way of inhabiting the world. I have spent so much time trying to enter social boxes before I finally, step by step, authorised myself to behave the way I feel. Mermaids is about normalizing being yourself where you are neither exactly fit for society nor total rebel. It is about how to find your place where you are in the middle. In-between cultures, way of living, social statuts, political consciousness."



Today, I would like to introduce Clémentine Sebaux, a young woman I had the pleasure of portraying and interviewing as part of Les Journées Bleues Normandie: L’Art pour l’Eau and my series About, which features inspiring women. Clémentine, known as The Mermaid, is passionately committed to coastal protection and the preservation of nature. Through her artistic projects, she challenges the traditional image of the mermaid and seeks to reshape our perception of the world. Her work aims to break down prejudices and highlight the diversity of human experiences. With her sensitive approach, she enables people to express their uniqueness without having to fully conform to societal norms.

"Since six, years, I have been doing researches about mermaids, their myths, legends and how people, today, connect with them. There is something happing now, worldwide with mermaids. More and more people feel connected to them. The image attracts. It talks about the forbidden, about freedom. About how we treat other living beings about how we treat Ocean and water. Now, while waiting for my book to be published, I interview people who feel this connection to water, to living. Sensitive people who feel they have something to offer to world but don't always know how to manifest it. Mermaids are being split in two parts. Their particularity is that they can hide their tail. So do so many people : hiding their singularity in order to belong. Keeping their sensitivity for themself so they don't look awkward."


"Everyday I see brilliant people with enthousiasm, wisdom, willingness to offer something beautiful to the world who are more or less stuck into the confrontation of their idealistic vision with how the society works. Those are the mermaid. In the allegory, mermaids sing to call the fishermen. Traditionally, it is said not to listen to them. That they will drown us. But what if mermaids' call had something to reveal us ? What if it were an allegory of those people who don't exactly fit into the norms but because of that, have something new and beautiful to offer ?"


"Everyday, I work on normalizing a relationship to the world which is not the predominant one. Wearing flowers in my hair and balking barefoot are my way of offering something else to be seen. Before, I worked as a florist. I decorated events with only local flowers, half directly cut in the fields. I realized most of brides had been waiting for this day to wear a flower crown. Most of the brides won't wear one anytime after. There are things some many of us wish we could do. that causes no-arms to anyone. That could offer something beautiful to be seen in the streets. though, we don't feel legitimate. So we do not do it. Why is it so ? Why is it we don't feel entitled to wear flower crows in our day-to-day lives? These are mermaid question. My hope is that the more mermaid will awaken, the more singular ways of inhabiting the world will be shown, the more singularities will be normalized. The more beautiful and peaceful our world will be. "


"Hannah Arendt says every new human being brings something fresh to the world. Nowadays, occidental society tend to refuse their novelty. As soon as a human is born, he is shaped to comply with how it already works. I wish every people would feel entitled to offer to the world what he or she came with. Claim their call. Feel welcomed as they are."

Most of my lyrics relate to personal experiences. They can be "letters' to someone, a real or more universal person, and the idea is to describe a situation that would make anyone feel emotions, so that the song gives people a moment and a place to connect to their emotions and find courage, realizing they are not alone and others (me at leqast) have felt it too and survived, or even made something beautiful out of it.“

The portrait series with Akemi Fujimori captures the depth and versatility of an artist who moves effortlessly between music, performance and fashion. Born in Paris to Japanese and Belgian parents, Akemi brings a distinctly international perspective to her creative work.

Music and Stage
Akemi began playing classical piano at the age of five and later expanded her musical skills to bass, guitar, drums and vocals. Today, she produces electronic music with her duo project dismæze, where she merges technical precision with an experimental, atmospheric sound.
When she is not in the studio, Akemi spends much of her time on tour, performing live or accompanying artists such as Prudence, Victor Solf, Isabel Sörling and Naive New Beaters. Her stage presence, artistic drive and emotional intensity are central to her identity as a performer.

“The Escapade is a calling for me – that’s truly the right word. It felt like a kind of appeal.
At its core, it is an invitation for people to open themselves up to what defines them in their essence. That might sound simple, and one may wonder why it is even necessary.
It’s astonishing how rarely we fully live our lives—and in doing so, earn our livelihood in a positive way. There is no longer a separation between work and life; they become one, resulting in true dedication. Work turns into devotion, and life takes on an entirely different quality.
The work I do with people is very intense, deeply profound, yet also full of joy. In a way, it resembles an epic film.


I don’t feel like I’m missing anything because I am constantly surrounded by extraordinary, moving moments—like cinematic sequences. When people discover their radiance and trust their unique expression, a moment so powerful and touching emerges that all you can do is watch in awe, often with tears in your eyes.
That is the goal: to recognize and experience a person’s aura.

SolomiaSolomia, 22, was born in Ukraine and left the country when the war began. Trained in System Analysis and active as a DJ at local events, she continues rebuilding her life abroad.
Photographed in Paris, her portrait reflects resilience shaped by displacement.

ABOUT  SOLOMIA

Solomia was born in the Ukraine. She is 22 Years old.
She left the Ukraine when the war broke out. I met her in Paris.
Solomia is a young woman who walks her path between a world of fashion, beauty and travelling, but at the same time did not choose this path because she wanted to walk it at all costs. 
She has a degree in System Analysis and worked in this sector. Also she was D-Jing at local parties and exhibitions in the Ukraine.
When I photographed her, I was impressed by her inner strength, yet  I felt her infinite sadness, which touched me deeply.

Solomia : 
"Honestly, I can call myself lucky to have the possibility of living abroad, and want to say thank you to each and every person who helped me on this journey. It`s hard to cope with the idea of being a refugee even when you know that you have your own place back home. But in this case, you leave everything behind, material things lose their meaning you only worry about human lives cause only they matter. I check the news every day and yes sometimes it`s overwhelming, but I am never tired of supporting my country as long as it takes. We stay strong and we are going to make everything possible , so our and next generations could live in PEACE."
